The Martian Rover
I had the honor to participate in building the action vehicles for 'The Martian' by Ridley Scott.
I followed the project as assistant art director of the vehicles' department alongside Mr. Ollie Hodge.
When the project arrived to Hungary the design was almost frozen, and we had to organize and supervise the building process of the two vehicles. It was a quite tight deadline project, since two working vehicles had to be built from scratch in 3 months time.
The running chassis was built by Szalay Dakar Racing team in Budapest, then the interiors of the cabin and the dressing elements were manufactured in the Korda film studio in Etyek by our model making team of English and Hungarian specialists.
The shooting was also followed all along by our team, which included a journey to Jordan, where the exterior and driving shots were recorded.
The Rovers did fulfill all expectations, the hero vehicle did all the action in the desert without any problems thanks to the work of our great English-Hungarian standby team.
Az a megtiszteltetés ért, hogy részt vehettem a filmes járművek építésében Ridley Scott 'Mentőexpedíció' (A Marsi) c. filmjéhez.
A projektben mint Assistan Art Director vettem részt, Mr. Ollie Hodge mellett.
Amikor bekapcsolódtam a projektbe - amikor Magyarországra érkezett a produkció - a dizájn már szinte teljesen készen volt, fő feladatunk a két jármű megépítésének megszervezése és felügyelete volt. Ez önmagában nagy feladat volt, mivel két működőképes járművet kellett megépíteni mindössze 3 hónapos határidővel.
A mechanikai alapokat, az alvázat, a hajtást és a kabint a Szalay Dakar team készítette, majd a kabin belső berendezését és minden egyéb kiegészítőt az etyeki Korda Stúdióban alkotott meg az angol-magyar szakember gárda.
A forgatást is végigkövette a csapatunk, melynek része volt egy jordánina út is, hiszen ott rögzítették a külső- és a menet közbeni jeleneteket.
A roverek minden várakozásnak megfeleltek, a fő jármű minden gond nélkül teljesítette a sivatagi feladatokat is. Ebben hatalmas szerepe volt a felkészült angol-magyar szerelőcsapatnak is.
